Confluence Gallery exhibit features McCabe, Brown and Neupert

Confluence Gallery’s first exhibit of the new year features painter and illustrator Sean McCabe, sculptor and multi-media artist Dan Brown, and ceramic artist Jim Neupert.

Opening on Jan. 10, with a public reception from 4-8 p.m., the exhibit of regional artists is titled “An Okanogan County Perspective.” The artists, who are all art teachers as well as working artists, will talk about creating and teaching art on Jan. 15 at 5:30 p.m. at the gallery.

The work included in the exhibit explores themes of nature, relationships, travel, and spirituality.
Sean McCabe has produced a new body of work focused on family, mountains and skiing, much of it produced during a recent sabbatical from teaching art at Liberty Bell Junior/Senior High School.
His colorful, playful paintings of people and mountains reflect his love of the outdoors. “My work is based on personal experiences,” McCabe said. “I climb and ski, partially so I can do my art, and I do art as a way of sharing my experiences with others.”

Dan Brown’s multi-media art including sculptures of life-size birds in flight. “I am tickled how alive these look when I have them fly instead of walk,” he said. His work is also inspired by a recent hiking trip through Spain, and the religious artifacts he encountered on pilgrimage routes he followed.

The sculpture of Jim Neupert focuses on human relationships, particularly the relationship between opposing parts such as dual identities and gender conflict.

The exhibit, curated by Pearl Cherrington, continues through Feb. 21. For more information, call the gallery at 997-2787.
