Horse Country

Exhibit and photo contest open Aug. 1 at Confluence Gallery

Whether rounding up cattle, plowing fields, packing into the wilderness, or grazing in pastures, horses are an integral part of the life and landscape of the Methow Valley.

“Horse Country,” an exhibit opening Aug. 1 at Confluence Gallery & Art Center in Twisp, focuses on our equine friends in a variety of art forms including paintings, sculpture, photography and fabric. The exhibit brings together artists from throughout the West as well as the Methow Valley.
In addition, amateur photographers are invited to submit photos with horse themes for the “Horsing Around” photo contest that will be exhibited in the solo gallery during the exhibit. Photos should be submitted between July 18 and July 28. Part of the $5 entry fee will support therapeutic horsemanship programs at Methow Valley Riding Unlimited. For information or applications, stop in at the gallery, 104 Glover St., or call 997-2289.

An opening reception for artists, members, sponsors and guests will be held Aug. 1, 4-8 p.m. On Aug. 13 at 3:30 p.m., curator Michael Caldwell, a former university art professor, will guide the public through the exhibit, discussing the work of individual artists.

The exhibit continues through Sept. 19. Confluence Gallery is open Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. For information call 997-2787.
